R.E.
Intent
At Abbey Primary School, we pride ourselves on our inclusivity, curriculum drivers and school values; we want our children to be thoughtful members of our community, equipped with the knowledge that enables them to make informed life choices about how they wish to live their lives and have a deeper knowledge of the faiths and beliefs of others they meet on their journey. We intend that children will encounter experiences that will contribute to their awareness, appreciation and exploration of the British Values, whilst also allowing them to understand a range of religions and world-views.
Implementation
- Handling artefacts
- Exploring sacred texts
- Visits and visitors to enhance learning of a religion
- Opportunities for celebration, prayer and reflection
- Visits to our local church alongside our local vicar coming into school to work with children and lead on assemblies
- Comparing religions and world views through discussion
- Responding to images, games, stories, art, music and dance
Impact
At Abbey, we foresee our R.E. curriculum having a positive impact on all of our pupils, allowing them to reach age-related expectations at the end of their cohort year. We aim to extend their knowledge and understanding of religions and beliefs, whilst also developing their religious vocabulary. All pupils are able to reflect on questions, scenarios and situations, offering their own thoughtful and informed insights into religious world-views and showing tolerance towards others. Ultimately, this will support them in preparing for the wider world as they move on through their lives.
