Intent:
- Offer a broad, balanced, rich and vibrant curriculum that provides challenging pathways to achievement for all learners, no matter their starting point.
- Enable children to develop the skills necessary to learn how to learn a language and develop their social and cultural understanding in line with our curriculum drivers.
- Develop confidence in children to become creative and independent learners who are able to use and apply their previous knowledge to new scenarios.
- Inspire curiosity of other languages and cultures alongside learning French.
- Offer pupils opportunities to learn and present their skills in different ways to suit all learning styles.
Implementation:
- Enable pupils to make substantial progress in French with a bespoke curriculum which has been designed for Abbey Primary School to meet national curriculum objectives, revisit previous learning and support their interests.
- Offering a wide range of topics to broaden their understanding of the world around them such as cultural days or taster sessions.
- Teaching through differentiated instruction to meet the learning styles of all learners and guarantee learning is fun!
- Promoting of British Values (tolerance and respect towards other beliefs and cultures)
Impact:
- All children make good progress in French and with a spiral curriculum, whereby children know more and can remember more.
- Children are prepared to continue their learning of French at Key Stage Three or have developed the hunger for language learning and the skills to learn a new language (if they are to go on to learn a different language at secondary school).
- Through careful teaching of the language, children strengthen their knowledge of the English language and it’s grammar and are able to make comparisons between languages (understanding how languages around the world are linked).
