Design and Technology
Intent:
- To create an enthusiasm for Design and Technology across the school, ensuring that during their time at Abbey Primary School pupils receive the opportunities to develop their design, make and evaluate skills.
- To design a curriculum using units of work from the D&T association in which children will complete a variety of tasks to develop their technical knowledge and enable them to critically evaluate existing products as well as products they have developed themselves.
- To continue to review and update the Design and Technology curriculum to ensure staff and children feel confident to develop their skills and understanding within the subject.
Implementation:
- To participate in regular meeting with Design and Technology leaders in TRIAD schools to review the coverage between schools within the subject and to develop staff understanding and knowledge.
- To develop a vital bank of resources in school (where budget allows) to support children’s learning and design opportunities.
Impact:
- For children to develop their understanding of the importance of Design and Technology, how products are made and constructed.
- To ensure Design opportunities interest children and enable them to become enthusiastic learners with the view to developing this further in their future education.
- Children will achieve age related expectations in Design and Technology at the end of their cohort year.
