Welcome to Year 3

Teacher: Mr. Guy
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Jacombs and Mr Denton-Irwin

Stepping in to Year 3, lower key stage two, children are encouraged to develop their independent skills further, through delivering opportunities in all areas of the National Curriculum. Core subjects are the main academic features of everyday school life, combined with other subject areas, allowing the children to progress and improve their skills and knowledge to become more confident and secure.

Some of the key focus areas build and strengthen knowledge from KS1. Subjects such as Numeracy and Literacy, follow programmes aimed at engaging pupils, inspiring their learning and making it accessible to all. Andrell's Big Maths is behind the pupil's numeracy structure and RWI's Language and Literacy supports the children on a daily basis. Alongside these we, and every class, promote a love of reading within our daily class read, sessions to aid comprehension and English lessons to push their variety, skills and interest.

Over the coming terms we explore various topics aimed at enriching pupil's experiences inside and outside of the classroom. This term Robin Hood and his Merry Men have visited our wooded area - not quite Sherwood Forest! We, along with Y4, will investigate the vast historical content, the geography and science of locations, cultures and faiths and explore the life and times of one of Britain's most notorious outlaws and legends.

Development outside of the classroom is also promoted through opportunities such as homework challenges, physical education (including swimming), computing, music and more responsible roles around the school environment.
